In an endeavour towards imparting specialised training and guidance in cricket to young students, Global Indian International School (GIIS) launched the Chandu Borde Global Cricket Academy (CBGCA) in December 2012.
Named after Mr Chandu Borde, former captain of the Indian National Cricket team,the cricket academy is an initiative as part of GIIS' pedagogical approach towards holistic education. The first CBGCA was launched on December 15, 2012 at GIIS Indore Campus in India.
The cricket training programme at CBGCA will be facilitated by professional coaches, and conducted on customised pitches for intensive practice sessions. Students of the academy will be mentored by Mr Chandu Borde on how to sharpen their sporting techniques and be counted amongst the finest cricketing talent.
Mr Borde is the former Chairman of BCCI's Selection Committee and has introduced some of the most remarkable playersto the Indian national cricket team, including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh. With an aggregate score of 12,805 runs in Ranji Trophy and 3,061 runs in Test cricket, Mr Borde was awarded the Padma Shri in 1969, Arjuna Award in 1966, as well as India's third highest civilian honour, Padma Bhushan in 2002.
